FLOATING – TRUNNION SPHERE DESIGNS

FLOATING – TRUNNION

In the floating Sphere design, as the name suggests, the Sphere does not have a 'fixed' position, but can change position with the line pressure. The Ball-Shaft connection allows a certain amount of lateral movement during a Quarter Turn. With the force applied by the flow passing through the line, Sphere provides sealing by applying pressure to the bearing surfaces. With its simple design, reliable sealing performance, it is widely used especially in low pressure and diameters. However, as the line diameter increases and the pressure increases, the force applied by Küre to the bearings goes beyond the strength limits of the bearing, which is usually made of Teflon-based materials. For this reason, Floating Sphere Design valves are usually produced up to 10” diameter. The larger the diameter, the lower the pressure class. For example, 1” Valve can be produced in Class 2500, while 10” valves are usually produced in Class 150. In the Trunnion Sphere design, the Sphere-Shaft is fixed with bearings, the bearings are positioned by the pressure of the flow, there is a kind of Floating Bearing design. Thanks to this design, Trunnion Ball valves are used safely in high diameters and pressure classes where Floating Ball Valves cannot perform. Production can be made up to 60” diameter and ANSI CLASS 2500 pressure classes. Trunnion Ball Valves have lower torque requirements than Floating Ball Valves of the same diameter and pressure class. In this way, they provide economic advantages with much lower actuation costs, especially in cases where automation is required. Apart from this, Trunnion Ball Valves can fulfill the Double Block & Bleed function. Trunnion Ball valves are produced from 4” diameter with Emergency Sealing Injection Device. If any of the elements in the sealing system is damaged, the sealant to be injected into the valve is guaranteed under all circumstances.
